Bright , Beautiful and Elegant stars!
are you up for a Challenge???
This was my WOW card at my last Christmas card class. I usually try to have a real range of cards from the simple 10 minute one to a card that incorporates new techniques. My stampers love coming to make these projects because they know I have saved them time by doing the design work for them.
This beautiful Christmas elegance was also a color challenge for me....I don't use much of the Night of Navy, for what ever reason it's just not one of my go to colors. HOWEVER, after using it with the shiny gold, silver and white I think I should keep it on my future radar. What do you think?
The Designers over at the PAPER PLAYERS have a Challenge theme this week that fits nicely with my card. " Holiday Projects that are Fancy" Please check out the other cards HERE.
The Highlights of my card are the FANCY FOIL die cut and embossed stars. The center of the stars are white featuring the card base underneath. The stars appear as if they are floating above the card base, just perfect for little fingers to touch and wonder in delight before ever even opening the actual card.
Here's how you make it!
Start with a whisper white card base and attach a strip of Watercolor Wonder Washi Tape along the folded top edge. I used the one on the left.
Cut a Night of Navy layer 5" x 3 3/4" and die cut 2 STARS with the 2 smallest dies. Note that the dies will need to be placed in this position in order for the lining up of the sentiment.
Nest and die cut the 3 smallest star framelits Using Gold Fancy Foil card stock, a Big Shot machine and Magnetic Platform. The Magnetic Platform is your personal assistant when creating these nested layers.
You will end up with 2 Foil star Frames and 1 solid Foil star. Use the PERFECT POLKA DOTS embossing folder and place the 3 Foil stars and the 2 Night of Navy stars in the folder at one time. I love how the dotted pattern coordinates with my choice of Washi Tape.
TIP: open the folder where you can read the STAMPIN'UP logo and then place the shiny side up inside the folder. This will make the dots emboss upward rather than look like holes.
Cut a piece of Striped Gold FANCY FOIL VELLUM 3 1/2" x 1" and a strip of Whisper White 3 1/2" x 3/4". Stamp the Seasoned Greetings sentiment from the Bright and Beautiful stamp set in the center of the white strip Using Night of Navy classic ink.
Layer the edges of the 2 strips over the large star opening then place the large Foil star frame over the 2 strips lining up the star opening as seen below. Using a pencil lightly mark on the strip edges that protrude into the star opening. Remove the frame and you will have marks on the strips as shown above. CUT AwAY the overhang you just marked.
Cut flag tips on each of the 2 strips and apply the striped vellum in place first. Tip: Apply adhesive only to the gold portion of the vellum.
Apply the sentiment strip next.
Now you can glue down the Gold embossed frames over the star openings as below.
Now it's time to POP UP this whole panel with dimensionals.....not 4 or 5 but several. It is crucial to support the stars in the middle of the card so they don't sag when you attach it to the white card base.
LOOKING FOR A PHOTO OPPORTUNITY? Place a photo on the back side showing through the star on the right side, then apply your dimensionals.
And even More Fancy Holiday Sparkle with the addition of some Silver Glimmer paper smaller stars. The smallest ones are punched from the star in the ITTY BITTY ACCENTS PUNCH PACK. At first I wasn't planning on using the Silver, but What a difference when I added it! I just love having that extra touch of sparkly glimmer.
Remember those 2 Night of Navy STARS I die cut at the beginning?
Well, they found a home on the inside of the card with the complimentary sentiment from the Bright and Beautiful Stars.
Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas!
