Build a CaKe with Designer Paper

You just can't help but LAUGH when you read this sentiment
from the "YIPPEE SKIPPEE" stamp set

carbs, schmarbs!
{EAT THE CAKE}

what better way to show off the sentiment than to have a really fun cake
to go with it, 3 tiered no less! I'm sure it's CHOCOLATE on the inside, right?

Inspiration for this project came from the challenge HERE at

After looking at all the super cute patterns and colors on the BIRTHDAY BASICS DESIGNER PAPER, I knew I could create a fun and colorful tiered cake. A special BONUS was being able to fussy cut the candles for some added fun.

The Birthday Basic paper has a really fun mix of color choices including....
Bermuda Bay, Crisp Cantaloupe, Gumball Green, Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, Very Vanilla and Basic Gray. With so many color choices it's easy to pull out 2-3 colors and work from there. I wanted mine a little softer so I choose the highlighted colors above. I also added Pool Party as a toned down version of the Bermuda Bay.

The GORGEOUS GRUNGE stamp set was used to create the super cool background .....very trendy right now!

Here's how to make the card

1.  Make a Very Vanilla card base.
2.  Using the Gorgeous Grunge  stamp set , stamp the Crisp Cantaloupe striped
image, then the Bermuda Bay large splatt, the the Pool Party in the bottom
     right hand corner.
3.  Cut a Pool Party piece 3 3/4" x 2 3/4"
4.  Cut a Very Vanilla piece 3  1/2" x 2 1/2", apply to the Pool Party piece
5.  Create the cake layers
     Numbers  2" x 1 1/8"
     Dots        1 5/8" x 3/4"
     Balloons   1 1/4" x 5/8"
6.  I Fussy Cut 7 of the candles with my Paper Snips . Why 7 ? it seemed to
balance well with the top cake layer. 3 tall and 4 short candles gives a nice
     tiered look.
7.  Build the cake with the patterned pieces starting with the bottom cake layer
and starting about 5/8" from the bottom of the vanilla panel.
8.  Pop up the whole Birthday cake panel using dimensionals under the
     POOL Party piece.

9.   Create the Sentiment Banner...
      Cut a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe card stock 3 1/4" x 1"
      Cut a piece of Very Vanilla card stock 2 3/4" x 3/4"
10.  Using Bermuda Bay, stamp the sentiment in the center of the Vanilla
      card stock.
11.  Using a 1" Square Punch  and placing the corner of the square in the
center of each banner end....punch the banner flag tips.
12.  Assemble the banner layers together and pop up with dimensionals.
13.  Fussy cut the party hat and glue to the banner

"Go Fish" Treat/Gift Card Box

Guys Deserve Goodies too, Right?
Here is a NEW Treat Box I designed for all the
Guys in Your Life.
It easily fits several Gift cards, treats ( gummy worms ) and space for
for a special lure or two!

I think I'm already " Hooked" on making this container because
I know I can fill it with so many goodies. I'm sure I will be making
more in some additional themes for the Holidays....please stay tuned!
I feel a 3-D obsession coming on....

So what colors did I use? The Treat Box base is made using Night of Navy card stock , the picture panel is Canjun Craze and the watery panels are Soft Sky.

By The Tide Clear-Mount Stamp Set

I love the versatility of the "BY THE TIDE" stamp set and have found myself making more projects than I thought I might (see links below). There are 7 stamps in all, so perfect for creating a print tray feel for the front on the box. This time I used just portions of 3 of the images. It's pretty impossible to mess up your image when you are only stamping part of it. I love that! When I stamped the Night of Navy ink on the Soft sky card stock it created kind of an illusion of water....seemed like a perfect combo!

To give the box a rugged outdoor feel I decided to make a topper from the NEW HOLIDAY CATALOG Burlap Ribbon. It's 1 1/4" wide so there is enough width to fold it over. My bone folder came in handy to help crease it in half. Don't you love the texture?

As for the Little banner it was easy to make with white card stock, the Ticket Duo Builder Punch, a Canjun Craze marker and Linen Thread. The cool thing is that I was able to write my own sentiment, so the idea is totally customizable and the little ticket punches allow space for several letters.

Now Stampin'Up doesn't sell them individually anymore. but you can Hold the cute little banner in place with Mini Clothes pins, no glue required.
You can however find 10 of the cute little pins in the Tag A Bag Accessory Kit  found HERE

Gold Embossed Magnificent Maple Leaves

Gold Embossing, something I always seem to do with every
Leaf stamp set I purchase. It was only a matter of time before
I tried it with the Magnificent Maple set.

I gold embossed three different colors of card stock...
Tangerine Tango, Elegant Eggplant and Crushed Curry , fussy cut them and then placed them on a 4" x 1 1/2" panel of Early Espresso on a
Baked Brown Sugar card base.

After I stamped the "THANKFUL for" in Espresso ink I felt like I still needed something more. My dilemma is that I wanted to fill in the extra space with something subtle so I remembered (which I haven't used forever) that you can stamp the Versamark ink on darker card stock and just get the watermark look.
Bravo! it worked just perfect and gave me the look I wanted. Funny how sometimes we forget about the tried and true techniques.

The leaves are popped up with dimensionals and also given an extra touch of texture with a simple bow of Linen Thread.

Technique Twist challenge/Emerging Colors

TIME TO DO THE TWIST.....
Technique Twist that is
# 5 Emerging colors

I had fun twisting this week's technique by making my own paper
Ribbon using the NEW gingham wheel.

Find out what the other Design Team Members have done
And then come play along with us!

For this technique I started by sponging three colors of classic inks on
white card stock
STRAWBERRY SLUSH, COASTAL CABANA & DAFFODIL DELIGHT

For the next step I rolled the gingham wheel across my clear ink
Versamark pad and then transferred the image on top of the three.
Inked colors. Sprinkle clear embossing powder on top of the
Versamarked image and emboss with a heat gun.

Sponge or brayer black ink over the top of the three colors and
clear embossed Gingham images.

The Colors really EMERGE when you wipe the black ink off of the
Clear embossed image and reveal the bright colors below.

Trim off the black edges to create your plaid ribbon
Then roll and clip the tails to decorate the card.

Blooming with Kindness

I Finally got a chance to get back into My Creative Zone! I've been
gone this last week with hubby and Friends camping at Lake Almanor near
Mt. Lassen Volcanic Park. It's such a special time as We have been camping with these friends for 20 yrs.We have had the best time over the years camping with our children and now some of our children's kids are coming also.
Great memories with very special people!

Today I decided to play with the Blooming with Kindness stamp set and a few of my markers. Tangerine Tango, Old Olive and Tempting Turquoise.

To achieve the multi colored flower layers start by Inking up the outside edges of the full flower with a Tangerine Tango marker using the brush tip. Now you can ink the center of the flower with the Old Olive marker, stamp on whisper white paper.

The second and three flower layers are inked with just one color and fussy cut and popped up with dimensionals.

To give the flowers
A touch of sparkle I added some Dazzling details to each of the petal layers.

Pretty scalloped edges and a multi layered butterfly pull together all of the colors for a bright and summery birthday card. I love the fact that the flower and sentiment are all in the same stamp set, easy on the budget!
(available in French and German also)
